Soy Alkimia

Hi, I am Carmen the owner and crafter for Soy Alkimia.

In 2003, I was vegan. A friend asked me for the soap I was using. I told her the commercial brand I was using, and she said: “You might not want to use animal products, but you are using it through your skin”. I had never thought about it, but she was right, and that was the beginning of my journey.

My first company was My Angel’s Call. I participated in a lot of farmer markets and my lotion was a hit! My natural soaps also took off so I kept researching and developing new products, which were highly reviewed by my customers.

In 2010, I moved to Florida and, sadly, had to put the natural care business behind me. In 2013 I moved back to Rhode Island, but chose not to pickup where I left off due to time restraints.

Two years ago, my granddaughter developed a skin rash. My daughter had tried every medicated ointment, every prescription recommended by doctors, but nothing worked! So I went back to my notebook of recipes to find a suitable cream for it. After finding a formula that could help, I gave it to my daughter, and within three months the rash disappeared. I also gave it to my son who suffers from eczema, and it helped tremendously.

My kitchen pantry is full of jars of herbs soaking in oils which serve as the base for my salves, creams, and lotions. I also use them for soaps, specifically for people with sensitive skin conditions.

After making the lotions for my family, I remembered how much I loved the process! So I scrubbed the dust off all my old equipment and got back to work, but this time I would do things differently—better.

I wanted a new name to match the company’s new direction, and found my self looking for a name that represented me, who I am and how I feel. So, I asked myself: “Who are you, what do you do, how do you feel about the products you craft and develop?”. And the answer came: I am an alchemist (an Alkimia)—I transform herbs into healing oils, and, somehow, it makes me feel at one with the universe.

So here I am, presenting myself, my passion and my love to all of you…Soy Alkimia.

Feel free to contact me and I will try my best to develop the product(s) that best suits your needs.

Note: While this story begins with me being vegan, today I am not. I use animal products and recognize that it is a natural source of food for human consumption. I do, however, also believe that we need to consume cruelty free products and thank the animal, vegetable and fruit kingdom for their contributions to our continued health.
